Social Change have been a fixture of the Adelaide Hip Hop scene for over a decade now, working closely with producer Funkwig, SC have released projects such as The V High EP, The Phat Tape and the Coming Through EP.
Internationally, Social Change have collaborated with the likes of Del The Funky Homosapien, Inkswel, Pugs Atoms, Blu, and countless other Hip Hop heavyweights and have showcased some of these collabs on the ‘Change Got Collabs Mixtape‘ available exclusively via bandcamp.
Their latest track titled ‘Top 5’ marks the next journey in the SC legacy, swift raps backed by ‘bang it in ya jeep’ beats from Funkwig. It also begs the question, who is in your Top 5?
Jonathan Stewart aka DJ Skarface has just released our DJ Mix Of The Week. Titled ‘Rage The Jewels’, Skarface has taken vocals from a selection of Rage Against The Machine tracks and mashed them over beats by Run The Jewels.
Originally this mixtape was made as a response the Rage Against The Machine/Run The Jewels tour announcement, not as a response to the events of the past few weeks. Having said that, there is no better time for DJ Skarface to have dropped this one.
I’m not equipped to speak on the matters at hand but DJ’ing and music have always done a good job of expressing how I feel”.
DJ Skarface
Having received a co-sign from el-p on Twitter, there’s no better tick of approval on that one. Spin the mix above and grab a download whilst you’re at.
“I rapped in prison when it wasn’t eeets to rap in prison…”
Sydneys very own Spanian aka the Armageddon Don has just unleashed his latest single titled ‘The Six’. The underground rapper has been making waves with not only his raw and honest approach to music but also via a series of viral videos where he breaks down stories from his past and time spent behind bars.
His authentic demeanour has gained a legion of fans and headlines from some of the biggest publishers on the planet. The Six, produced by DAYTODAY is a slow paced head nodding joint packed with everything fans have come to expect from Spanian, killer tails from the street and a pair of fresh Asics, but it doesn’t stop there. In true Spanian fashion he breaks down why he’s a real g and leaves no one questioning his position.
You talking heart I am man down to my true fabric, you’re talking brands I am Gant down to my two Asics. I carry things in the streets that I do stab with, and actual back what I say, you just do ad libs”.
Spanian
Spanian has gone from strength to strength over the past year, and if The Six is anything to go by we’re in for some hectic new tracks on the horizon and hopefully a full album release soon. The Six dropped alongside a straight up street styled film clip, filmed and edited by The Last Addition. The locations on this one echo stories the Sydney rapper has shared in the past putting his city firmly in focus. Be sure to bang this one loud, you can keep up to date with Spanian here.
Wombat’s back like he never left! Tasmanian rapper Wombat has teamed up with Dagenham legend Devlin on the highly anticipated and long awaited collab dubbed ‘Adrenaline’. After destroying Wrighty (remember Wrighty?) in Australia’s first ever grime clash, Wombat continues making moves forward on this massive AUS to UK link up.
The energy Wombat brings to all of his tracks is unmatched in Australia and Adrenaline is no different. Prod by PEZOTB, Wombat rides the menacing beat with a barrage of bars that would impress the hardest of emcees. Devlin, not to be outdone, uses his years of experience to compliment Wombats ferociousness with his well constructed verses and a technical takeover that hones in with the precision of a guided missile.
…All these cunts wanna claim they came from the guttah, you came from your mother cunt!”
Wombat
Even though Wombat has been around for a moment now, we feel this is just the beginning of what’s coming from The Bat. No word on an upcoming album just yet, but with the release of this collab we feel we’re on the cusp. With such a great outcome from their first collaboration, it’s hard for us not want to see a joint EP from these two in the near future. Who knows…
You can check out the visuals for Adrenaline above, filmed by AV Club/No1 Network & Risky Roadz. Keep up to date with Wombat here and Devlin here.
Sydney rapper That Kid Kearve, has recently released his brand new track ‘This N That’. It’s already racked up an impressive 120,000 views on YouTube in just under a week. Having no label support, and no features, Kearve be on the rise.
Produced by B Hill Beats, This N That is an absolute cruncher. It’s not only our release of the month but it’s also one of our favourite tracks from Kearves already extensive catalogue. The young West Sydney Rapper seems to be hitting new heights on each and every release, building a strong momentum for his EP which drops on all platforms on June 28.
This N That is the title track taken from the new EP. With no features, it’ll be 5 solo tracks of that straight fire. Producers on the project include Chief Wiggin Beats, the aforementioned B Hill Beats, Ozo, and Broke Boys. The EP is set to shake things up in the local scene.
Listeners seem to be rejecting the manufactured label approach to Hip Hop, especially at a local level. Some labels seem to be trying to tick a number of boxes for who they sign, that has no relation to the actual music. Fuck a label!
Check out the clip for This N That above featuring the handy work of West End Media.
BLONDIEMAN can be described in many ways… human, blonde, possibly a man. He has been described as ‘the inimitable maestro’ by some. Whichever way you want to go you can’t sleep on his brand new album title B.O.A.T.
Following on from the Blondieman EP relesed late March, B.O.A.T is a cosmic journey through time and space ridding upon the jizz ejaculated from a half man, half dolphin being. The albums crazy artwork created by Bonnita Gillard, sets the scene. We really didn’t need another album cover with a fake plastic wrapping design.
There’s just no denying the level that this project sits upon. Forget trends, forget dickheads, forget artists who like to tongue fuck each others dickholes for triple j plays, this one in straight up in a lane of its own. No one does it like Phil Gektor.
Cop a facial from Blondieman’s latest release B.O.A.T out now.
Underground rapper MiKki has recently released a brand new single titled ANGL. The track hit our radar just the other day and we thought it was worth a share. This is the second single from MiKki this year following on from “I’m Not Driving” which dropped a few months back and highlighted a difficult period for of his life.
The visuals for ANGL are out now and follows MiKki through a series of locations as he fires off a barrage of multis and a hook that will earworm your brain. The clip which features a masked presence was shot and edited by MAAXVISUALS and produced by TOUGH EDIT.CO. Check out more from MiKki by following the link here.
The Dynamic Production Duo Return To The Scene Of The Crime With Their Former ‘Down Under Beats’ Counterpart Dialectrix, Bringing The Ruckus You’d Expect.
Platterpush and Codeks have been DJ’ing since the late 90’s, recording, performing and touring with numerous live outfits. Turntablism is an important aspect of their style which is evident in both of their live sets and releases. Platterpush and Codeks were the founding members and co-producers of Down Under Beats crew (Dialectrix, Joenew, Immune, 13th Son), a hip hop collective that toured extensively and released two albums in the mid 2000’s. Being ‘Unearthed’ by Triple J in 2004 raised the bands profile and saw them becoming one of the trailblazers of the emerging Australian Hip Hop genre.
The Producer/Dj duo have gone on to produce for many successful artists such as Thundamentals, Lotek & P.Smurf. The pair recently produced the majority of P.Smurf’s recent debut solo LP ‘Playin the Blues’. As well as continuing to write music together Platterpush & Codeks have also gone on to work on numerous other projects. Platterpush is now a member of the notorious Blue Mountains four-piece Otherside and features prominently on their two EP’s and recent 7” singles. Codeks has been busy recording and touring with his own band Bomb Threat who are currently working on their debut album.
‘Hands Down’ is the 2nd Single taken from Platterpush and Codeks’ debut production malbum ‘Planet of the Misfits’ due late 2020 on Scratches Records. The bold anthemic single features Melbourne-based wordsmith Dialectrix, who returns to the scene with a vengeance; giving fans a lyrical masterclass on why he is still one of the finest emcees in the country.
More than a decade after their crew (Down Under Beats) disbanded, the three artists have re-united to serve up a double-time tongue twisting banger. With a healthy dose of bravado Dialectrix asserts his continued lyrical prowess whilst making light of his professional stay at home dad status. Platterpush and Codeks provide a dramatic soundtrack, combining a dark orchestral sound-world with contemporary double- time grime influences.
Look out for the forthcoming production album from Platterpush & Codeks titled ‘Planet Of The Misfits’, featuring a vast array of guests, showcasing vocals from some of Hip Hop’s finest local and international artists.
Mancunian rap powerhouse Aitch shares new EP POLARIS. The hefty 8-track project is proof of just why the 20-yr-old is the name on everyone’s lips. Paying homage to his northern roots, the EP is named after the Polaris star, located at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper, approximately 408 light years from Earth. Polaris is also known as the NORTH STAR.
Following on from his high-octane performance of ‘Raw’ and ‘Rain’ with AJ Tracey at Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Aitch hit his already ecstatic fans with another dose of new music – this time in the form of new single ’30’, which surfaced overnight with a Manchester-filmed, fast and furious visual (below). Just hours earlier, Aitch generated fan hysteria with the announcement of Polaris.
The new EP features never before heard tracks ‘Safe To Say‘, ‘Zombie‘,’Triggered‘,’Like Them‘ and – an ode to Aitch’s hometown – ‘Moston’, alongsidehit single ‘Rain’, a collaborative release with AJ Tracey, which after charting Top 5, has stuck in the UK Top 20 ever since.
With his witty and rapid wordplay and versatility, Aitch is a shining light on the UK music scene – a chart dominating force to be reckoned with. Adapting his trademark flow to any beat, Aitch has enlisted production on Polarisfrom long term-collaborator and fellow Mancunian Whyjay, (‘Moston’, ’30’, ‘Raw’ alongside Sangy), as well as US heavyweight Kenny Beats (‘Safe To Say’, ‘Zombie’); Cubeatz (‘Safe To Say’) and Nils (‘Zombie’); the Grammy nominated Tay Keith (‘Rain’); AOD (‘Like Them’); and the incredibly talented Nastalgyia x Sykes (‘Triggered’).
Polaris lands just one week after ‘Raw’ – a declaration of confidence and truth that recaps on Aitch’s success so far. The track is accompanied by a dark and moody visual (directed by KC Locke) – watch below.
Aitch is undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories of the last year. Covering The Guardian Guide last month, and garnering support from the likes of NME, GQ, Vogue, Clash and beyond, Aitch is on the rise – even Stormzy and Ed Sheeran are fans. Debut offering ‘Straight Rhymez’has garnered more than 19 million views, credited as the video that propelled the then-teenage Aitch, into the limelight.
Since then, Aitch has gone on to make his mark globally – he is YouTube’s ‘Artist On The Rise’, has a Brit Award nomination under his belt and a Global Award win for ‘Best New Artist’. His video for single ‘Taste (Make It Shake)’ has accrued 28M views, and at one point he even featured on four songs in the UK Official Chart at one time. A keen collaborator and integral part of the UK Rap Scene, Aitch has seen huge success with his features on Young T and Bugsey ‘Strike Me A Pose’, Russ x Tion Wayne ‘Kesha Becky (Remix)’, Ed Sheeran ‘Take Me Back To London’ and more recently, alongside DigDat on ‘Ei8ht Mile’.

After the release of his self produced EP ‘Come Alive’ which picked up nods from Spotify and even an exclusive segment on Beats1 radio, rapper/producer powerhouse Lakshane is back at it, announcing a brand new single, ‘Reload’ that will be out on all major platforms on the 29th of May.
‘Reload’, like the Melbourne rapper’s previous music, is for the hip hop lovers, boasting a vibrant chorus and lyrics full of bravado that captures the true essence of this upcoming Australian talent. The instrumentals were created by Perth producer FRAAN, which complement the upbeat and high octane feel of the overall song.
“Reload is something I wanted to get off my chest. I feel like I allow a lot of people into my life without a wall and they take advantage of it or don’t reciprocate the love. Reload expresses my ability to reset and keep going despite these people and the other barriers I encounter”
“Australia’s Hip Hop scene is definitely in its International boom right now. Sound wise I feel like we still have to find what makes us unique instead of adopting or copying others, Youngn Lipz, Chillinit and The Kid Laroi definitely bringing that though. I hope we can move past the boom bap and onto something new. With R&B there’s a lot of artists killing it from AU who aren’t talked about like rappers. They’re actually putting up great numbers and doing big things. Let’s hope we can make Australia’s urban music industry more profitable for artists“.
